Bob Robb got his love of the outdoors and sports from his father and grandfather, who regularly took him fishing from the time he was in short pants. A three sport all-league selection and all-California state baseball player in high school, Bob played football, basketball and baseball through college. He also received his B.A. in physical education with minors in English and Public Administration in 1975, and his M.A. in Parks & Recreation Administration in 1977 from Sacramento State University. Bob began his outdoor writing career while in college, penning a popular outdoor column first for the Sacramento Bee, then the Sacramento Union newspapers. After a short stint working for the Sacramento County Department of Parks & Recreation, Bob left for his first full-time job in the outdoor writing business, as California state editor for the weekly Fishing & Hunting News in Seattle, Washington. A year later he became editor of the weekly Western Outdoor News and associate editor of the monthly Western Outdoors magazine in Costa Mesa, California. Four years later, he became an associate editor for Petersen’s Hunting magazine, working for Petersen Publishing Company for nearly 10 years. While there, he helped create, and was the first editor of, Petersen’s Bowhunting magazine. During this time he was also a prolific freelance writer, authoring hundreds of magazine articles and several books on hunting. Deciding that 15 years in the trenches in the Los Angeles basin was enough for any sane man, Bob left Petersen Publishing in 1991 and moved his now full-time freelance business to Valdez, Alaska. All told, he lived in Alaska for 15 years, where along with his writing and consulting businesses, Bob also held an assistant hunting guide’s license. In addition to his own Alaska hunting, he helped guide several clients on successful hunts for Dall sheep, mountain goat, black bear, brown and grizzly bear, moose and caribou. In 2005, Bob and his wife, Cheryl, moved to their current home in Tucson, Arizona. Bob is currently the editor of Whitetail Journal and Predator Xtreme magazines, as well as the former editor of Waterfowl & Retriever and Bowmasters magazines. To date, he has authored 10 books on hunting and contributed chapters to several others, and currently writes every-issue columns in Bowhunting World, North American Hunter, Deer & Deer Hunting, Waterfowl & Retriever, Bear Hunting, and Whitetail Journal magazines, as well as on the, and websites. He also regularly contributes feature articles for these, and many other national hunting magazines. In 2009 and 2010, the readers of Bowhunting World named Bob their favorite writer. His hunting adventures have taken him to five continents. The best part of his job, he says, is the fact that “It lets me be in the field somewhere between 120 and 140 days a year. What could be better than that?”
